Power semiconductor devices:
Introduction, Power diode; Thyristor: Static, Dynamic & Gate characteristics, two transistor model, Turn on methods, protection, ratings; Power MOSFET Construction & Operation, characteristics; Power BJT Construction & Operation, characteristics; IGBT Construction & Operation, characteristics; GTO characteristics; Comparison between power devices; TRAIC, DIAC characteristics and applications.

Phase controlled converters:
Single phase converters: Half wave with R, RL, RLE load; without and with freewheeling diode. Full wave with R, RL, RLE load without and with freewheeling diode, Line commutated Inverters, Dual converters; Performance parameters; effect of source inductance on performance of single phase converters;
3-phase converters: Half wave with R, RL, RLE load; without and with freewheeling diode. Full wave with R, RL, RLE load without and with freewheeling diode, Line commutated Inverters, Dual converters; Performance parameters; effect of source inductance on performance of three phase converters

Inverters:
Concept of CSI & VSI; 1-phase half bridge & full bridge inverters; 3 phase inverters: 180 and 120 degree conduction; Voltage control of inverters: single pulse, multiple pulse width modulation and sinusoidal pulse width modulation, Series Inverter.

DC to DC converters:
Step-up & step-down choppers, Type-A, Type-B, Type-C, Type-D, Type-E, current commutated chopper, voltage commutated chopper

Thyristor commutation circuits:
Natural commutation, Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D and Class E commutation circuits.

AC to AC converters:
AC to AC controllers with R and RL load; Cyclo-converters with R and RL load.
